Marriage Between A Man and A Woman

This work celebrates love and marriage between a man and a woman. The couple have open hearts and are ready to marry. A bird visits the man before the wedding, a sign of good fortune for the happy couple.

The man is taller than the woman and wears the 'hat' (protection) and the 'pants' (masculinity), signifying his role in the union. The woman wears the crown; symbolizing her status in the relationship; (dignity) and gazes lovingly and expectantly at the man, who has 'wings' to sweep the woman away.

This work represents my feelings towards marriage at a time when marriage rights for same sex couples are being lobbied for in Australia. Marriage to me is a union of the yin and the yang, the blending of the opposites.

Relationship Between some Men and some Women

This work describes some factors in the relationships between some men and some women as I see it.

The woman towers over the man, not only in height but in the 'largeness' of her head. She wears a stylish priest's hat, which also makes her higher; and thus holier; than the man. The woman's heart is open and her perception is sharp and clear; her eye sees all.

The man wears the cook's hat and stands in between the woman and the oven, thereby ensuring he does not get away. As the man gazes adoringly at the woman,she uses the snake to entice him into making the daily bread. The man has lots of questions and has a heart of his own, which is in the top right hand corner quite disconnected from the man.

Black White Eye

I am sure we all know the kind of people who will do anything to get what they want. I wrote this poem about those people I have known who will be nice one minute, nasty the next; depending on whether or not they get their way. These people can even lie and try to manipulate others to get what they want. This is one of the 'least nice' of human behaviors, easily recognized and commonly referred to as 'two faced'.

Good an evil high and low    What you see is what you know    That the truth or that a lie    Hidden in the blink of a black white eye

Saint and sinner heaven sent    Give me some and I'll repent     Blacks the night and whites the sky     Spoken in the words of a black white eye

I am great and you are small     You're not the one who knows it all     It all depends on what you buy     To soothe the fire in the black white eye

Now I'm nasty now I'm wild     Nothing but a little child     Never never ask me why     I'm safe in the womb     of the black white eye
